Action and properties
Melatonin LEK-AM 5 mg has two main directions of action in the treatment of sleep disorders. First, it causes a direct sleeping effect, which is probably the result of interactions with the central GABA-ergic system. Secondly, it has a chronobiological effect, adjusting changes in sleep and wakefulness rhythm to changes in lighting and duration of day and night. This action is primarily through specific central melatonin receptors MT1 and MT2. Melatonin:

plays an important role in regulating the circadian rhythm of sleep and wakefulness,
facilitates falling asleep,
improves the quality of sleep.
